Gettin' down on Friday #10

[via oldworldprimitives]

vacation.

thanks 4 everything albany. thanks 4 nothing.

c u l8r.

// bambounou - alpha [zippyshare]

mmmmm more french bass. you can always use some new french bass.

// anti-g - a hype up system [zippyshare]

this is weird. it's called "bubbling house", and while it seems crazy, it's also pretty lo-fi to be in the club, with virtually no bassline. but man, it's fun.

// the count and sinden - after dark (krystal klear remix) [zippyshare]

yes. another "after dark" remix. come onnnn

Gettin' down on Friday #9

[via me]

i saw her and it was like i didn't even know her

i saw her and she was a stranger, as if the passage of time had worn away everything familiar, comforting, attractive

i saw her and i felt nothing.

// canblaster - timemaster's chronicles (bambounou remix) [zippyshare]

Haven't heard a bassline like this in a minute - this song shifts from the typical Club Cheval sound to a grimy crunchy stepline, back to clicky 140 bass. Purrfect.

// ldfd - pinheiro [zippyshare]

Off the new LDFD release Outtacontrol, "Pinheiro" is a hood rich summer anthem, churning with haunted samples and a southern hemisphere vibe.

// dark sky - armour [zippyshare]

This speaks for itself. Like seriously.

// s-x - swag bitch swag [zippyshare]

Downloaded this blindly from a promoter hawking a release of 140 bpm rap instrumentals, and this one definitely stood out. With that ghetto 808 juxtaposed against a 2step bassline, it's just asking for an acapella in the club.

Gettin' down on Friday #8

[via plaza de la virgen]

The party was a flop. I've been listening to weird, sad acoustic music ever since.

I gotta go 2 da club i thnk or else this mite b 4ever.

Seriously though. Wish I was @ camp Bisco...

// trc - oo aa ee (130 edit) [zippyshare]

Nothin' like a little bit of garage at house tempo. I posted a 2step remix of this a few months ago, but this one fits into my sets a lot better. The synths at the beginning are perfect and seem to go with any track like butta'. Yeah.

// girl unit - wut (claude vonstroke remix) [zippyshare]

Speaking of mixes at house tempo - this one is a classic. I love the bass, the clicks, the drums - I didn't think Claude VonStroke had it in him.

//d!rty aud!o & wes de graaf - whatcha know bout that [zippyshare]

Aaaand now some beepy, horny dutch house. It's been awhile since I've listened to any and it's sort of funny that it's still being made, but the bass on this number is huge...liiike totally worth it dude.

Gettin' down on Friday #7

[via quodlibetic on tumblr]

sorry i missed it again last week.

life happens. whatever that means. it's only sunny on your days off.

99 problems and a bitch is every one.

// star eyes - ride or die [zippyshare]

wherever i found this originally put it pretty well: this song is exclusively for the late nite tip, that bass is just too much when you're sober. get it.

// heavyfeet - are you dumb? (dre skull remix) [zippyshare]

it's been too long that this song's been out without a download available. here it is.

// dem 2 - she go down [zippyshare]

i posted about this the other day, and now it's out. enjoi.

// crookers & savage skulls - dr. gonzo anthem [zippyshare]

ditto this.

Gettin' down on Friday #6

[via @cpjpresents]

It figures it would be sunny and 80 all week, and I'd have to work.

Now it's overcast.

It figures...

// mele - streets of rage [mediafire]

A free download offered by none other than UK bass champ Mele himself - this is fun, and was in his most excellent Fact podcast.

// brenmar - so high (distal remix) [zippyshare]

This is some fun juke, to tide the world over until the brilliant new single from Brenmar drops this Monday on Grizzly Records. In unrelated news, I'm spinning with Brenmar on July 2nd in Albany. Chill..

// sonora & zuzuka poderosa - thriller beats [soundcloud]

Vamos a la playa.

// uncle jesse - brighter [zippyshare]

Some nice moombahton, to bring in the weekend. It is summer after all.

Gettin' down on Friday #5

[via @melissabunning]

So here we are again. Another Friday, another terminal. I've got the non-stop today though, so at least I won't have to chill in Baltimore.

What a busy day. Some lady in a rental Volvo rear-ended me on the drive over to the airport. Of course she's fine, she was in a Volvo. I'm also moving in today, to my new house.

But you don't care about that. I don't frankly care about that. You're here for the music.

Me too.

// caballo & jairo mendez - temperatura (moombah version) [zippyshare]

Despite what the title may suggest, this song is not a moombahton edit. It's actually at 140 bpm, completely in vogue amidst the tropical, global bass takeover. Recommended if you'd like to have fun for approximately three and a half minutes.

// spooky - spartan (d.o.k. remix) [zippyshare]

Remember when dubstep was good/cool/relevant? I found this in a mailing list that I got from Juno, and it's pretty good. Better days, right?

// petsoop - das boot (hide & scream remix) [zippyshare]

It's little more, how do you say, "maximal" than a lot of what I listen to, but this is fun #indaclub.

// rusko - hold on (the mane thing moombahcore edit) [soundcloud]

Oh. Hell. Yeah. This is, as the title suggests, a moombahton rework by my favorites The Mane Thing of the classic Sub Focus remix of "Hold On". Yes. It's just as good as it sounds:

// schlachthofbronx - chambacu (solo remix) [soundcloud]

I love everything about this song. I love Schlachthofbronx's original, and its air horn drop. I love the cumbia song from which the leading hook is derived. And now I love this rework by Solo, which drops to half time, letting the song smolder:

Gettin' down on Friday #4

[via my headstash]

Big summer, big tracks.

What else can really be said? It's the season for convertibles, block parties, and beaters. So turn up the bass, take it off, and tune in.

// annger dimas - like this (obeyah edit) [zippyshare]

Straightforward bass grooves, from an artist who, possibly more than anybody, deserves the moombahton treatment. Angger Dimas is all about aggressive dutch horns, huge bass, and ghetto samples. Check, check, and check - it sounds great at 108.

// alvaro & punish - cubata (breakdown remix) [zippyshare]

$o L@tin. So fUnKy. Tan sucia. And then it breaks down...whoa.

// surkin - white knight two (nikko remix) [zippyshare]

I love Nikko. He strikes the perfect balance between ghetto, b-more, and house. Like the best in the game, all he cares about is making people dance - which is why we're all doing this in the first place, right? This has a sick, staccato bassline and keeps Surkin's synth lines. drop 4 a good tyme.

// emmanuelle - l'abandon des bonnes manieres (hat & hoodie remix) [zippyshare]

I had never heard of Hat & Hoodie until a couple weeks ago, when I stumbled across their blog while looking for some tasty bass tunes. Their semi-regular mixtapes, which they inexplicably stopped uploading last October, are some of the best mixes I've ever heard, and full of tunes like this refix of Emmanuelle. Download, enjoi.

// shameboy - vultures (boemklatsch remix) [zippyshare]

Dutch house collective Boemklatsch is sort of hit or miss. A lot of it is cheesy, but work like their "Burning Hot" remix of C-mon & Kypski is epic. This here is uplifting, beautiful, and essential.

Gettin' down on Friday #3

[via me, madrid, es, spring 2010]

So here we are. I'm sitting in the Baltimore terminal for what seems like the hundredth time in the last month. School's over, I'm unemployed. But I still have the music. I can never forget that.

// antony santos - vete (uproot andy remix) [zippyshare]

I love this song, and the way that Uproot Andy fuses house tempo, organic guitar picks, and a cumbia feel for the perfect sunny, southern, summer jam. If you live in the NYC area, be sure to check out his Que Bajo?! parties, they're apparently a riot. I'm looking to do big things with this guy this summer (if I can catch him before he goes back to Colombia...)

// the subs - don't stop (aston shuffle remix) [soundcloud]

This isn't anything fancy, just straightforward, room-filling fun. This is coming out at the end of May, can't wait to download a full version of it:

// doyo - blast (mentalcut moombahton edit) [zippyshare]

I've never heard of Mentalcut before, and his soundcloud seems to be full of mash-ups, but this song is awesome. As much as I love the latin jams, I really like moombahton that takes the urban, bassline direction, and this refix of Doyo doesn't dissapoint.

// ashanti - fancy (brenmar remix) [zippyshare]

This is a rework by Brenmar of an Ashanti track based around her part in Drake's summer hit "Fancy". He featured it in last week's mix for Fader and decided to give it away for free the other day. It's nothing too crazy, but definitely worth having in yr sets.

Chau!

Gettin' down on Friday #2

[via me, cascais, portugal 2010]

Wow. Isn't this crazy? I've been back on the internet for a whole week or so now, and I haven't lost interest. Weird, I know. I can't believe that summer's basically here and that I'm living in Albany full-time. Buh bye sunshine and beaches....on the plus side, there's still plenty of awesome music coming out, and thanks to the magic of the internet, I can still get at it no matter WHERE I am!

This week we've got some juke, we've got some house, we've got some step, and we've even got some - SHOCK - moombahton, but it's all bass-centric and that's all that matters. As Mr. Worldwide himself would say, Dale, disfruta.

***

// jwls x billy the gent - chick like this [zippyshare]

This is some supergroup shit, and also some of the most club-ready moombahton, that combines all of the genre's best aspects. It's a fusion of hip-hop, latin, dutch, and - best of all - truly monumental bass. Drop this, watch the club shake.

// dj drmr - legal swings [zippyshare]

I already blogged about a DrMr track earlier this week, but this one is hot off the presses, and it's quite the journey. I don't quite know how to pin it down genre-wise, but I give it my full backing. Which I'm sure means a lot to you since I've been regularly updating this website for all of about 9 days now....just trust me on this one.

// jody breeze - the way i move [zippyshare]

JUKE, JUKE, JUKE. BASS, BASS, BASS. This was in the new Canblaster mix and it's got me hooked.

// the mane thing - listen [zippyshare]

I am in love with The Mane Thing, ever since I heard their track "Get Paid" on a world club compilation earlier this year (look it up). Their style is so cool, going from kinda filter, disco sounding party house bridges and builds into stark, futuristic drops that combine to form some of the best club music around. "Listen", which just dropped this year, is by no means an exception to this trend.

// clash the disko kids - transient (shameboy remix) [zippyshare]

It's a transitive nightfall of electro house, and this second drop screams summer festival. Goodbye and good luck.

Gettin' down on Friday #1

[via assortedawesomeness on tumblr]

So, it's just another blog trying to insert itself into the tastemaker's club by rounding up some arbitrary tracks on a given day of the week?
Yeah.
And you're gonna put up some vaguely artsy photo that you found on tumblr?
Yeah.
Oh, cool.
***
// heartbreak - dance if u like [zippyshare]
This is from that side of moombahton that isn't all about dutch horns, but instead beautiful lady vocals, piano loops, and turntable scratches. You know?

// doctor jeep - yr mind (kat fyte remix) [soundcloud d/l]
I guess this sort of falls under that whole "future bass" umbrella, except this shit is MADE for the club. Like really. I don't know much about this Kat Fyte character, but I like what I hear. [via keepalbanyboring]

// roska - abrupt [soundcloud stream]
This is a sampler of the new Roska single due out on May 30th. The a-side "Error Code" doesn't do a whole hell of a lot for me, but scroll over to 0:59 where the b-side "Abrupt" takes over. I can't wait for this to come out in full:

// munchi - yazzer g tin air max [soundcloud stream]
WOW. Munchi is THE man. Dude spends like an eternity in the hospital, almost dies, but is still just pounding out banger after banger, in every genre from dutch house to dubstep to moombahton. This bizarrely titled club jam falls under what he calls "papiamento juke"...I like. PLEASE RELEASE THIS ALREADY THX:
