Remembering the King

Michael Jackson, 1958 - 2009

Thousands of people converged upon Staples Center in downtown Los Angeles this afternoon to pay tribute to the recently deceased King of Pop, Michael Jackson. But you already knew all of that, and frankly, if you want news, I'd suggest you try CNN before you come here.

Nah, what you come to people like me for are pretty pictures, videos and sounds. So, here's some of that.

***

First off is a video of Mariah Carey and Tres Lorenz performing the Jackson 5 hit "I'll Be There". It takes Mariah a few bars to find her voice, but from then on it's a pretty moving performance.

Next we have what will undoubtedly stick out as the soundbyte of the summer - a tearful goodbye from his 11 year old daughter, Paris - a JFK Jr. salute of sorts for our generation.

Finally, here's the best tribute to Michael Jackson I've heard so far, an hour long mix courtesy of Chris Read. It's pretty aptly titled too.

More rap megamix fun

A little bit back, I posted a link to a rap mix by Chris Read entitled The Diary.

Now comes a follow up to that, dubbed The Diary 1.5. It's in much the same vein as the first installment: scratches and funky beats mixed in a linear progression.

Good clean fun (well maybe not clean), and highly recommended!

Rap megamix

Over at Brooklyn Radio, they've posted a massive megamix by Chris Read called The Diary. In a bit more than an hour, Read compiles a history of hip-hop and rap into a gigantic mix which is simply jaw-dropping.

Most of the songs are divided into years, so the whole thing isn't continuous, but warrants mention nonetheless.
