Songs of the week: 7/2/10

Wow, it's been awhile! World cup fever has kept me connected to my Spanish-speaking brethren, but I've had a rough week nursing the loss of the Yanks - at least Ghana got what was coming to them today from Uruguay, in one of the best games I've ever had the privilege of seeing!

But now, for the music...

Songs of the week: 3/22/10

Oye, it's been a long week. It was las Fallas here in Valencia, the craziest thing I've ever taken part in.

Now that I've had a full weekend to recover, I figure it's about time to post some killa tracks, right?

Disfruta.

Songs of the week: 12/22/09

Merry Christmas-ing times, my laptop has been out of commission since about last Tuesday, so the updates have been pretty non-existent. Don't fret though, I've continued to search out some fun songs to help keep my sanity in tact.

My indefinitely running playlist continues.

***

3. Graze - Animal Collective (PAN FLUTE)

So we're finally here - the end of another semester, another year, another decade.

Este enero, me voy a Espana para estudiar. And so I don't know how regular this blog will be. But before then, we have a few more nice random posts, and then a countdown of the top 100 albums of the last 10 years.

Exciting!

Songs of the week: 7/21/09

It's so weird to think that July is on the downhill, another summer past its apex. There's been some interesting things afoot in the industry over these last couple of months, and this fall is shaping up to be one of the most exciting release seasons of recent memory (that is if Brand New actually makes good on their September release date!)

It's also rather weird to see how my tastes have changed over the last year. I didn't know that this was possible, but I think that I might have burned myself out on mellow indie rock, and the material I cover here reflects that. So, true to form, here's some questionable rap, textbook electronica, and a little drum and bass thrown in for good measure.

L'chaim.

songs of the week #26:

1. Too Many Rappers (ft. Nas) - The Beastie Boys (MCA apparently has cancer, but no reason not enjoy this new track. Gotta love the "NY State of Mind" reference in that first verse!)

3. Ready for the Weekend (High Contrast remix) - Calvin Harris (Sick breakbeat remix of Harris' new single)
4. Hyper Invisible - Axiotronic (Reminds me a lot of i am robot and proud - which is a good thing)

Songs of the week: 6/16/09

Ah. Summer, while not "officially", is officially here. Hazy, hot, and humid - with the reliable afternoon thundershower. Don't you love Florida summers?

2. Nothing Pure Can Stay (Live) - Audrye Sessions (Hell yeah)
3. Kids (MGMT Cover) - The Kooks (I'd hope that, unlike with the original, people make actually take heed of the chorus: control yourself, and don't overplay this track. Take only what you need!)
4. Autumn Beds - Modest Mouse (Another new Modest Mouse song! Off of their upcoming 7")

Songs of the week: 6/9/09

It's been a hot minute since the last Songs of the Week, and I felt like it was high time for a return. Only two tracks this week, both of them hot and fresh out the proverbial oven.

I'm still in search of this year's summer song, but the second track certainly carries potential. Be sure to tell me what you think.

Happy listening!

songs of the week #24

1. D.O.A. (Death of Autotune) - Jay Z (I'm not yet sure where I stand on this track - the production is killer, but Jay's verses might leave something to be desired. Time will tell)
2. Jeffer - Boys Noize (Hell to the yeah; I can't wait to see him spin at Summer Stage in August!)

Welcome to another late late late edition of "Songs of the Week"! I'm just running behind on life in general right now - a few days past deadline on a review of Crippled Black Phoenix for the Silent Ballet, as well as working on reviews of new albums from Morrissey and The Prodigy.

So bear with me, and enjoy some rad tunage.

Songs of the week: 12/9/08

Sorry for the hiatus on Songs of the Week; I was home over Thanksgiving with no internet, and since then I've been absolutely swamped with finals. But it's okay, I'm back. Somehow, I think the world went on just fine without me.
