If there's two acts that I've been loving more than anything lately, it's The Weeknd, creepy R&B wunderkind, and moombahsoul pioneer David Heartbreak.
Now they're together, with Heartbreak releasing 7 remixes from the former's recent Thursday mixtape. Somehow he improves on the already amazing song "The Birds (Pt. 1)", making it more fun and danceable.
In case you weren't aware, moombah cavalier David Heartbreak has put out a free EP or two (or six) in his day, and the latest one, entitled M6 has just dropped.
It's only got three tracks, and I'll admit, the first one "Level 10" isn't anything special. There's also a remix of "Blaze Up" by Arizona champs Mendez and Pickster that loops the genius "blaze up" vocal hook with a satisfying, if predictable, lazer stab that's sure to be bonkers in the club.
The real highlight of the EP is the collaboration with BigMakk, "Beautiful Noize", which is on the level of Dillon Francis' best work, reminsicent of his remixes of "Take It Back" and "Hits Me Like a Rock". Heartbreak shines here and I can see this being absolutely fucking devastating on the dancefloor.
this is weird. it's called "bubbling house", and while it seems crazy, it's also pretty lo-fi to be in the club, with virtually no bassline. but man, it's fun.
// the count and sinden - after dark (krystal klear remix) [zippyshare]
Haven't heard a bassline like this in a minute - this song shifts from the typical Club Cheval sound to a grimy crunchy stepline, back to clicky 140 bass. Purrfect.
Downloaded this blindly from a promoter hawking a release of 140 bpm rap instrumentals, and this one definitely stood out. With that ghetto 808 juxtaposed against a 2step bassline, it's just asking for an acapella in the club.
I swear, there is no other genre like moombahton for free music. From David Heartbreak's series of free downloads, to Munchi's unbelievably sized oeuvre, there is just so much music (of both high and low quality, admittedly) being given away.
Pickster One falls into the former category, that of voluminous, high quality output. And today, the morning of the fifth Moombahton Massive party, he's given away another free EP, AZ Gunslingaz, available for free download. A collaboration with Melo, Mendez and other southwest stars, the EP definitely has a desert vibe to it, even including a rework of Ennio Morricone's classic Dollars theme.
All the songs are solid, but the standout track for me is the closer, "Pijama".
There aren't a lot of better things in the world than waking up to a free album on your Twitter feed, especially when it's from somebody like Belgian talent Max LeDaron. He and Mexican cohort DJ Javier Estrada have teamed up, and the output is appropriately titled: Belgica y Mexico Unidos.
It is available for a free download over on Bandcamp, and is definitely worth the listen. I'm not a fan of the title track "B.Y.M.U", as it's a little too spazzy and chaotic for my tastes, but the house and moombahton mixes of "El Caramilo Diabolico" are solid, on point.
Sooo....just in case you hadn't gotten enough of Brenmar yet...
Out next week on Enchufada (home of my favorites Buraka Som Sistema!) is the new Brenmar joint "Waiting On", which has an awesome bassline, an awesome drop, and - as per usual - an infectious vocal hook. You might have heard it in his Fader mix from May, and if you're like me, you've been waiting.
Huh...I would have figured that Wayne would have already done a freestyle over "Pon De Floor", but apparently Major Lazer is too indie-alt-hip for his taste - he had to do it via Sasha Fierce's post-fem-banger-fest.
But he still doesn't even rap on it...just says thank you a bunch and shouts people's names...so just in case the original beat with Vybz Kartel wasn't enough for you, you can now pretend that you're in a room listening to Lil' Wayne talk at you while it plays in the background.
Roska tweeted today about a new EP coming out on his label, Kicks and Snares, by a newcomer named Guttershake..that's not entirely true, actually, because Guttershake's been around before, it's simply a new alias of J:Kenzo "for his beats at 130bpm".
The EP, entitled Fibroptickz, is only a preview right now on soundcloud, but it sounds promising. Most interesting to me is the third track, "Tec Toy", which starts at the 0:46 mark.
Heyy thanks @naomishimada for the head's up - Kingdom, the champ of R&B and clicky drums fused into the best of house, just put out a new mix and I slept on it!
He put it together for Oki-ni, and the tracklist is just incredible.
Unfortunately it's up on mixcloud, which means you can't download it, but it's still definitely worth the time, at school, the office, the library, whereverr.

WOW. I mean I've heard it in a couple eXcLusIve moombah mixes (like Diplo's maybe? I think?) but I've never bothered to find out what the track was.
This is a collaboration called "Blaze Up" by Toddla T & David Heartbreak and it doesn't fail to live up the expectations given to such names. From the stabbing "blaze up" rude boy sample to the single dutch stab, the bass pops and the ladies get down.
Or something like that, at least. Peep it on soundcloud below:
Nothin' like a little bit of garage at house tempo. I posted a 2step remix of this a few months ago, but this one fits into my sets a lot better. The synths at the beginning are perfect and seem to go with any track like butta'. Yeah.
// girl unit - wut (claude vonstroke remix) [zippyshare]
Speaking of mixes at house tempo - this one is a classic. I love the bass, the clicks, the drums - I didn't think Claude VonStroke had it in him.
//d!rty aud!o & wes de graaf - whatcha know bout that [zippyshare]
Aaaand now some beepy, horny dutch house. It's been awhile since I've listened to any and it's sort of funny that it's still being made, but the bass on this number is huge...liiike totally worth it dude.
wherever i found this originally put it pretty well: this song is exclusively for the late nite tip, that bass is just too much when you're sober. get it.
// heavyfeet - are you dumb? (dre skull remix) [zippyshare]
it's been too long that this song's been out without a download available. here it is.
So, if you're reading this right now, then chances are you've read me before, and might have noticed that I have an admiration for a dude named Brenmar that frankly borders on the near-obsessive. SO, imagine my delight when I found out that briefly this weekend I might be sharing a stage with him, if only for a precious moment...
Alright jk no homo, but he is awesome, and he is coming to Albany on Saturday and spinning some sensual, nasty, sex beats.
WHERE: Pagliacci's Rooftop, 44 S. Pearl St, Albany, NY
WHEN: Saturday, July 2 @ 9PM
COST: $5 (21+) / $10 (18+)
My friends over at keepalbanyboring did a nice little write up & interview with Brenmar in support of the party, which should hopefully go over well (it's on tha rooftop so let's cross our fingers it doesn't rain).
You might have heard of this supergroup of Para One, Surkin and Bobmo via their springtime jam Marble Anthem, full of clicky, trilling house madness.
Now, this summer they're back with a new EP, and it's madness. This one, "Wipe Out", is my favorite, and the official label description is pretty funny:
« Wipe Out » is the summer riddim, a juvenile Riviera cousin of « Marble Anthem » or « Girly ». Glittering vocal bits and bittersweet organ chords switch to big deafening bass, hi-res dominatrix synths and punishing electrofunk beats. Just let yourself whip by the heat.
Check out the whole Summer EPhere, and enjoy "Wipe Out" below. Au revoir...
Wow. This is absolutely epic, and the Gonzo Anthem EP from Crookers and Savage Skulls drops TOMORROW. Peep the some youtubes below, as well as the Sinden remix of the title track:
Damn....finally got my hands on a high quality rip of the b-side from that new Roska joint, Error Code/Abrupt. With a silky smooth sub-bassline, "Abrupt" is a late nite slow burner that'll creep up on you - and far exceeds the A-side "Error Code" in my opinion.
This is some pretty groovy, straightforward house from relative unknowns Dem 2. It's fitting that Hot City tweeted this, because they are exactly who this song sounds like. The single drops next Monday, June 27th on Tighten Up records.
Like holy shit fucking ridiculous. How eloquent, right? Did I mention I was an English major?
Here's like a tracklist or whatever, and you can download it here.

This is some fun juke, to tide the world over until the brilliant new single from Brenmar drops this Monday on Grizzly Records. In unrelated news, I'm spinning with Brenmar on July 2nd in Albany. Chill..
Mmmm...been a minute since I've jumped on the moombahton grind, I've been too busy chillin out to the Dave Nada compilation from last week to really feel the need to search for anything else.
Saw this on my twitter feed today though, and had to take a look. It hits hard, with a nice pitched-up Spanish vocal loop - too bad it's not a minute or two longer. Either way, here's some J-Trick, check out his soundcloud and enjoy:
